Anthony R. Shaw, Jr.
Director of Laboratories
Co-Director of Graduate Studies
As Director of Laboratories, Tony is responsible for all operations in support
of the education and research mission of the Department, encompassing the Facilities,
Financial & Business operations, Information Technology, Human Resources
and Administrative functions. In addition, he is the Co-Director of Graduate
Studies (along with Professor Matthew D. Shair, Director of Graduate Studies)
and is responsible for Graduate Student issues, serving as the principal point
of contact for students' administrative and interpersonal concerns.
Tony joined the Department in 2001 from GeoPartners Research in Cambridge,
MA, where he was the Principal, Business Operations. Earlier, he had an extensive
and varied career at Bell Labs and AT&T, including positions in Human Resources,
Facilities, Purchasing, and as the AT&T Chief Security Officer for all their
Government Programs. He was Director of Bell Labs’ Information Systems
Reengineering Center and finally, prior to retirement, was AT&T Lab's Director
of Information Services.
Tony is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain and Vietnam veteran. He received
his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s, Boston, and did graduate
work in business at Loyola University, Chicago and Rutgers University in New
Jersey, and has participated in Harvard's Executive Education program.
