Building Strong Academic Chemistry Departments through Gender Equity

Arlington, VA - January 29-31, 2006

Surfaces and interfaces are important in many emerging and existing scientific fields and technologies. The research in my group is motivated by an interest in several technologies, including heterogeneous catalysis, nanostructure growth, environmental chemistry, laser-assisted materials processing, and chemical sensor technology.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of my work, I have faculty appointments in both Chemistry and the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences . In fact, some of our work involves strong collaborations with faculty in Physics and Applied Physics--Profs. Aziz, Kaxiras, and Mazur. I also participate in two major research centers at Harvard-the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) and the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC). These centers are a source of cutting edge instrumentation and facilities and also provide a broad research community with which to interact.
