History:
The first chemistry collection was part of a general science
library located in Boylston Hall in the 1890's. The chemistry material
was transferred to its present location in the Converse Memorial Laboratory
in 1927, with the main reading room built and equipped by Mrs. Gould as
a memorial to her husband, Frederick Saltonstall Gould, Harvard Class of
1875. Additional space was added in 1962.
