X-ray Crystallographic Laboratory at Harvard University

Center for Crystallographic Studies

Analytical services provided using single crystal x-ray diffraction.

Harvard Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology

APEX Detector system arrives at Harvard (7-01).

Manager and Lecturer: Dr. Richard J. Staples

Copy of the picture created for the cover of Inorganic Chemistry, 1997, created by Brent M. Segal, in Professor Richard H. Holm's laboratory.

The Center was formed to support and operate the two new "SMART CCD System for Single Crystal Diffraction" delivered from Bruker-AXS. The instruments are equipped with a low temperature device. The laboratory is operated and maintained by a full time crystallographer. The Laboratory is housed in Covant B10.

The center is a full service facility, able to determine the three dimensional structure of molecules and solids from single crystal samples. The Center is equiped with Two PC's, a Silicon Graphics Indigo2 Solid Impact R10000 workstation and a microscope which is used for routine mounting (see Laboratory Instrumentation).
